The town of Moià in Barcelona is developing a waste valorization project that includes the construction of a 1,200 KW biogas plant. This plant will produce electric energy and heat for all the public facilities in the town.

The mayor of Moià, Dionís Guiteras, will explain this project in detail at the Net Zero Tech meeting, which will take place in Barcelona on June 5th and 6th. Guiteras will participate in the panel “Decarbonization and SMEs,” organized by Foro Industria y Energía, which will be held on June 5th starting at 9:40 am.

The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, through the call for the second program of incentives for unique biogas installation projects (BIOGÁS Program), financed by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan – Funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, has granted 3.3 million euros for this project.

It is planned to allocate 20% of the plant’s production to industry and the population through a local energy community. The plant will be powered by waste from slurry, wastewater treatment plants, the food industry, and municipal organic waste.
