During the annual conference of the Tarragona Chemical Business Association (AEQT), the association’s president, Ignasi Cañagueral, reaffirmed the sector’s commitment to electrification. However, he warned that achieving this goal would require three times more electricity and electrical infrastructure within the next five years.

Responding to this pressing demand at the event, which was attended by over 350 professionals, Miquel Sàmper, the Conseller d’Empresa of the Generalitat, addressed the issue head-on:

“It cannot be that a country with wind and, above all, sun, is struggling with electricity. The first message I want to convey is this: Catalonia aims to be strong in energy production. We don’t want to struggle because we want all of you—our industries (referring to Tarragona’s chemical industry)—to remain competitive. And competitiveness starts with a reasonable energy cost. We will work on energy, and we will aim to establish the necessary plants so that energy reaches your companies and helps you become more competitive.”
