Sergio Maynar, Director of Neoelectra Energía: “A SME must manage its energy as if it were a large industry”

Energy management is crucial for companies of any size, from large industries to SMEs. For the latter, which represent almost 90% of the Spanish business fabric, establishing good planning and choosing the right tariff can mean a 25% reduction in their energy expenditure.

The keys to achieving adequate energy management for SMEs will be the main topic of Sergio Maynar’s presentation, director of Neoelectra Energía, at the Net Zero Tech meeting, which will take place in Barcelona on June 5 and 6. Maynar will participate in the “Decarbonization and SMEs” panel, organized by Foro Industria y Energía, which will be held on June 5 starting at 9:40 am.

Maynar emphasizes that “to be competitive, an SME must manage its energy as if it were a large industry, but they do not always have the sufficient means to do so. In this context, the role of suppliers like Neoelectra Energía is crucial, as they provide the necessary knowledge and experience for the SME to choose the most appropriate tariff with fixed, indexed prices or a combination of both.

The expert will also delve into the impact that the new obligation regarding emission rights (ETS2), which will come into force on January 1, 2027, will have on SMEs and other sectors. “For a company that consumes 1,000 MWh/year – a hotel or a sports center, for example – their gas bill would increase by about 8,500 euros per year with this tax,” he explains. “This gives us an idea of the importance of this new obligation and the need for SMEs to opt for suppliers that combine competitive gas prices with CO2 rights management,” he adds.
